If we do decide on Canada as a place to stay Empty If we do decide on Canada as a place to stay

I was looking into what we need to cross the border of Canada, and found all we need is a drivers license/state id card, and an original birth certificate! and also hitchhiking is not illegal there! So just thought i would do this as an info thing for everyone. i was thinking if we do Canada, then we could cross the border (on foot) then hitchhike to where we finally decide to go. thoughts?

I dont have any problems with that, but depending on how many people are all goin it might be slightly difficult to find a ride big enough for all of us to fit in..

So we dont need a passport? Just ID and birth certificate?

If we do decide on Canada as a place to stay Empty looking at ferries

Post  Ryan Sat Nov 01, 2008 2:22 am

I was lookin online for all ferry schedules, and found that the one in port angeles, is not year round, we would have to wait until may 23 to catch a ride across, but if we all decided to meet up in Anacortes WA, they have daily trips from WA to sidney canada, that would leave us only about 80 miles from port renfrew, and this is all still IF WE DECIDE ON THIS SPOT, i just like to plan this shit ahead of time. tickets cost 16 bucks for a one way fare.

we need to get this stuff planned out, its already november!

i have a couple of questions. first, are we going to need passports? and secondly, if we're going by ferry, are they expecting us to come back by ferry or even come back at all? is it legal to just stay in canada once we're there?

we're all going to be carrying our equipment and questions will be asked. just wondering how that's going to work...

When you're crossing into Canada, they ask you how much money you have and how long you plan to stay. If they think they're lying about the money, they'll ask for proof and not let you in if you don't have a sufficient amount to "support yourself", whatever that means.

Also, if you say you're just driving through and they have no record of you leaving again when you said you would, I think they issue a warrant. You need a Visa to stay beyond a certain time.

Plenty of people travel to canada for work everyday, so i am not really worried about it, but what i was thinking,, we would all meet up at a port in WA, and pay somebody 20 bucks maybe more, just so we could put all our packs in to their car, so it does not look odd when we all cross over, just something to think about right now.

One suggestion I would offer is utilizing Craigslist and the like for hooking up rides. Especially in the spring there are a lot of really cool people driving up the Alcan and Cassier that are looking for riders, whether you go all the way or just part of the way.

Are you guys all on the west coast? I'm in MN and it would be kinda hard to get to WA, but if there are other people and a different group we could go to canada through MN.
