Tent, Eureka! Alpenlite XT - $279.00

After reading a lot about it this tent, it has to be the bomb of small tents. The design with poles and roof angle, etc. is suppossed to keep you safe and sound inside, even if there is a blizzard that drops a few feet of snow on you. I haven't bought it yet... but it's next on the list.

Eureka tents seem to be some of the best out there, I have also been doing some research on them. Heres another one a little cheaper, maybie not as durable but still seems like a good tent. lol I think this tent ways less then some of the sleeping bags I've been looking at. 3lb 10oz

As long as you get a Eureka you know you will get a good quality tent that will not leak.

Taylor, have you tried this tent out?
I'm wondering if there's a vent somewhere on it that you could build a fireplace outside of it, while the opening would send heat into the vent or something. Do you think that's possible, with this tent?

yeah i have tried it and many identical in shape, i don't think its really designed to have a fire heating it up, its more of a tent that you set-up and sleep in with a good sleeping bag and warm clothes. If you want to have a fire beside it try a bigger tent that is dome shaped. The tent is well ventilated but with the outer tarp on the smoke will just fill the tent...

Well, what I have in mind is to build a small fireplace with a chimney ouside the tent. The smoke will go up the chimney, but the open face of the fireplace to radiate the heat forward, towards the tent. That's why I was wondering if there was a vent in the tent about 6" up a wall or something?

If you want a good 4 Season Tent
If you want a good 4 season tent with heat you need a tundra tent..

Those are the types of tents that they take on Tundra Expiditions. And We will need alot of wood to stay warm no matter what we do.. I think it's just something to think about.. It would allow us to heat the tent, and Cook/Boil water without going outside. Something to think about.. Tho the stoves can weigh 30+ lbs so we would prob have to split the load.. It's Just an Idea. A good one in my opinion.

well im not joining you guys to Alaska, im doing this in Ontario so im wondering if that would be a more reasonable approach to a shelter without spending all my time working on a cabin. There is plenty of wood in Ontario for a cabin, but i think I would rather use my time and energy stacking up wood for the winter and hunting.

Tent
Well I have setup a similar tent with a friend a few years ago and it only took about an hour or so. And we stayed warm and had plenty of room.
Building a cabin of any good size will take one person mths to complete. Working all day every day...
And if you are only going for a year or so building a cabin isn't really needed.. Also you can pickup and Move a tent like this whereas you can not do that with a cabin. A cabin would also be more obvious, and if you are going to a national park cutting down timber to make a cabin is against the law.

I'm going outside the park on overlay crown land, cabin building is not permitted, but tents are allowed. I know building a cabin is not really practical unless i buy land north of the park. These tents do look good but i dunno, unless I see one in person I probably wont get one, but it did open my eyes a little more to large tent structures...
